Special Education


GSSE caters to the special needs of Children with Cerebral Palsy (CP), Mentally Challenged (MC), and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) with associated problems of Speech and Hearing Impairment. A classroom has an integrated set of students with multiple disabilities (CP, MC, ASD) grouped as per their cognitive levels and age criteria. The student ratio is 1 : 8 as per standardized norms of Special Class. There are 8 units of Classes …. Subgroup into 13 sections of multifunctional classrooms. The students age range between 2 years ( Early intervention) - 18 years. There is a provision of extension up to 20 years for selected vocational units students who are under specific training.

There are 8 Units of Special Education classes i.e.

  • Pre - Primary Unit

      -> It is the nursery wings of school, for Environmental Exposure and Concept building.

  • Primary Unit

      -> Exposure to Academics.

  • Primary I

      -> Structured Academics.

  • Primary II

      -> Functional Academics

  • Pre - Vocational

      -> Exposure to vocational Training

  • Vocational Unit

      -> Students get specific Skill training .

  • Special Learning Unit

      -> For high support group students

  • Literacy Unit

      -> An extension of academic wing of vocational unit and also for students who join after the mainstream schooling.

Remedial resource classes for students attending mainstream Education to cope with specific learning problem.

Computer Unit

Digital learning is accessible to all our students to explore their area of interest. This unit is visited by our Special Learning Unit students (high support group) to cognitively able students (Primary-I and literacy Unit) equally. Computer unit helps students to get oriented with basic operational knowledge of computer .Primary-I unit students learn how to document their class projects and take a print etc. Junior students are given audio visual exposure through video games to play with tabs. This unit is one of the favorite zone of the students.

Vocational avenues of GSSE

Senior vocational unit students are actively involved in running a small in-house canteen and snacks outlet as part of their training. They are oriented with various spheres of vocational tasks like packaging of snacks and keeping stock at the Vocational Outlet, front office registration as well as gardening, making paper bags etc.

Craft Unit

Students have art and craft activities where they paint on fabrics, jute bags, aprons, file folders etc which is put on sale at the Vocational Outlet. Students' art is used on greeting cards and posters.

Assessment & Evaluation Procedure For Admission

  • First-hand information (FHI) a brief interaction with parents is the first step of interaction with the child's family to note their concerns.
  • This is followed by detailed interview, Screening and Assessment. New students are assessed through standardized Assessment Checklists and tools by a team of Multi Professionals (Special Educator, Physiotherapists, Speech Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker, and Doctor etc).
  • Assessment is also based on analysis of behaviour and how it evolves and affects the individual which gives a profile of the child's level of functioning in different skill areas such as communication, Social cognitive selfcare and occupational.
  • Children with CP (Cerebral Palsy) have additional assessment physical management Programme.
  • Following the assessment parents are briefed about the functioning level of the child with a profile of skill areas.
  • Parents priority concern areas are taken into consideration and a Basic intervention plan is worked out with Individualised Education Program (IEP).
